Rickety Bridge / Franschhoek

Nestled in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley lies a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable experience for wine enthusiasts and families alike. Rickety Bridge Wine Estate, with its rich history, stunning scenery, and award-winning wines, is a perfect spot for visitors to embark on a journey of exploration and indulgence.

At Rickety Bridge, history intertwines seamlessly with modern winemaking practices. The estate traces its roots back to the late 17th century when the land was granted to the widow of a Dutch soldier. Over the centuries, it transitioned from a humble farm to a thriving winery, preserving its heritage while embracing innovation.

Wine Tasting

Wine lovers will delight in the opportunity to sample Rickety Bridge’s acclaimed wines, crafted with great care and attention to detail. From crisp Sauvignon Blancs to velvety Cabernet Sauvignons, the estate’s diverse portfolio caters to every palate.

For those seeking a deeper immersion into the world of wine, Rickety Bridge offers immersive tastings led by knowledgeable staff who guide guests through a curated selection of wines, providing insights into flavor profiles, terroir, and food pairings. They have various tasting and pairing options on offer and you can take a sneak-peak at their tasting menu here: WINE TASTINGS

The best thing for the little ones accompanying you: they also offer a kiddies tasting with different juices and sweet treats as a highlight.

While Rickety Bridge is renowned for its wines, it’s also a lovely spot for families seeking relaxation and entertainment amidst breathtaking surroundings. The estate boasts expansive lawns and picnic areas where children can play freely while parents unwind with a glass of wine. They do have a colourful jungle gym on the lawns as well, but it is already slightly worn down and could use a little remake. So not the greatest playground of all, but you’ll find the usual jungle gym with a slide and swings.

Paulina’s Restaurant

The estate’s on-site restaurant, Paulina’s, invites guests to savour the flavours of Franschhoek with a menu inspired by fresh, locally sourced ingredients. From gourmet picnics to sumptuous three-course meals, Paulina’s caters to all tastes and occasions. Whether enjoying a casual lunch with the family or a romantic dinner for two, guests are treated to exceptional cuisine paired perfectly with Rickety Bridge wines. They do have a kiddies menu as well, so it’s 100% safe to bring along the kids to this dining experience.

Our Experience

We enjoyed a lovely wine tasting at Rickety Bridge along with a very delicious savoury platter which we shared as a family and was more than enough to fill the tummy. The kids enjoyed the kiddies tasting option and were very glad that they could join our tasting experience. The playground is quite run down, unfortunately. The kids didn’t play there much as it was also a very hot day and there is no shade on the playground. So they were mostly sitting with us. However, the lawn space and views from the terrace are spectacular and it’s really worth a visit.
